Addiction starts with individuals who are basically good, and no different than you or I. These individuals encounter a problem that they find alcohol or drugs provides and immediate, yet short term, relief. The problems could range from not being attractive enough and fitting in with a popular crowd to severe mental problems.
Unfortunately, in certain parts of California, appearance and vivaciousness is extremely important. Those individuals who worry obsessively about looking good may turn to drugs to help them stay thin or alcohol to help them overcome their shyness. Alcohol drug treatment centers are full of people who simply wanted to be more outgoing at parties.
California drug rehab centers see many women, and men too,who started taking drugs in an effort to remain thin. As they drug gradually takes over their lives, these individuals forget about being thin or attractive anymore, they are now just worried about getting a steady supply of drugs.
Drug and alcohol abuse cannot be blamed on the state of California, but the culture of thinness, parties, and keeping up appearances plays a role. Addicts ultimately take the first drink, or use the first drug. Some impressionable young people just want to fit in the California party scene and they believe that drugs or alcohol use will make them more popular. Addiction starts in many ways, but it can only end with rehab.
